Description
Hard to imagine a tropical rainforest amidst Dubai’s desert landscape? Check out City Walk in Jumeirah, which is home to a standalone man-made biodome called The Green Planet. Boasting 3,000 species of tropical plants and animals, the attraction is the ideal destination for nature lovers and young ones keen to learn more about the planet and the delicate balance of nature. Book your tickets now as a myconcierge member and get ready to immerse yourself in the tropical way of life.
Designed as an enclosed, self-sustaining ecosystem, The Green Planet recreates the rainforest environment by regulating temperature and humidity levels, allowing the flora and fauna indoors to flourish. The efforts were aimed at raising awareness about one of the world’s oldest ecosystems and involved leading scientists, biologists, zoologists and architects from around the world.
The Green Planet contains a self-sustaining, man-made indoor tree, the largest of its kind in the world. Standing tall at 25 metres, its branches are artificial but hold a number of plants and creepers all over it. Eventually these living flora species will take over the entire structure, creating a lush, tropical environment naturally.
At the base of this tropical ecosystem, lies the ‘flooded forest’, a giant aquarium filled with beautiful aquatic creatures including stingrays, arowana and arapaima, reflecting the species that exist in rainforests. From here, a lift carries you to the roof of the biodome, offering panoramic views of the entire ecosystem, complete with familiar sounds associated with waterfalls and tropical streams. A closer look at the world below and you will spot the exotic wildlife that call The Green Planet their home, including South American toucans, crocodile lizards, spiders, bright green parrots, tree frogs, tree boas, colonies of worker ants, reptiles and a sloth who is free to roam the rainforest.
